OUR STORY

Our story is one of friendship and motherhood. In 2015 two new mothers, Carene Fourie and Heleen van Zyl, began putting together bags of newborn essentials, but weren’t sure how to distribute them.

Meanwhile, Alexandra Nomavuka had been working as a house mother in a safe house for teenagers in Kayamandi, when a sudden transition left the girls with little support, leading to several becoming pregnant.

Alex helped Carene and Heleen distribute those first baby bags, but they soon realised that they couldn’t leave it at that.

Alex had already been looking at ways of providing stability, community and a measure of financial support to young women in Kayamandi and, together with a few friends, the three moms started the first Her Voice sessions in August 2015.

OUR TEAM

When seeing the size of our team, one may wonder about salaries and overheads. We’ve had the amazing gift of quality, committed volunteers since Her Voice started in 2015. The good news is that as our support network has grown and we’ve been able to hire our first paid staff. We continue to work toward expanding our staff, as our desire is for the groups we operate in to be run by those who live those communities.

Thank you to those who give to provide salaries! We couldn’t do it without you.
